Saint Francis Has NEC-Best Five Teams Earn NEC Sportsmanship Awards In 2023-24

Saint Francis University recorded a Northeast Conference (NEC) best five Team Sportsmanship Awards. Women's soccer, women's bowling, women's golf, women's tennis, and men's volleyball earn the Team Sportsmanship winner distinction for 2023-24. The five team awards are the most since the 2012-13 season and the third most in program history.

After winning the honor last season, women's soccer was the only Red Flash team to repeat its team sportsmanship award. The women's soccer team has been recognized thrice (2010-11, 2022-23, 2023-24).

Women's bowling and women's golf have also earned three distinctions after earning the award in 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2023-24. Women's tennis picks up its second honor and first since the 2012-13 season, while men's volleyball nabs its first recognition in the sport's second year as a sponsored sport in the NEC.

Saint Francis won eight team sportsmanship awards in 2010-11, and in 2008-09 took home six honors. The five collected in 2023-24 are tied with 2011-12 and 2012-13 for the first most in a single season.

Since the NEC Team Sportsmanship program was instituted in 2008-09, the Red Flash has won a conference-best 48 awards, followed by Sacred Heart (37), Wagner (33), CCSU (32), and LIU (30) to round out the top five.

Men's basketball leads the university with eight sportsmanship awards. Men's tennis (5), football (4), women's basketball (3), women's bowling (3), men's cross country (3), field hockey (3), women's golf (3), women's soccer (3), women's swimming (2), women's lacrosse (2), women's tennis (2), women's volleyball (2), women's cross country (1), men's soccer (1), men's indoor track and field (1), men's outdoor track and field (1) and men's volleyball has garnered the honor at least once in program history.

Instituted by league Presidents in 2008, the awards are designed to acknowledge the team in each conference sport that, in the opinion of its peers, most closely demonstrates good sportsmanship based on the NEC Principles of Sportsmanship and Standards of Conduct. Voting is conducted at the conclusion of each season by each team and head coach, who rank teams within the conference based on a set of criteria.
