Whittington Announces Assistant Coach Hires Ahead of the 2024-25 Season

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University women's basketball head coach Keila Whittington announced the hiring of Chynna Bozeman to the staff as an assistant coach in addition to promoting Alexa Middleton to an assistant coaching role. Middleton served as the director of operations during the 2023-24 season.

Bozeman joins the Red Flash coaching staff after she spent the 2023-24 season as an assistant coach at Morehead State. The Eagles went 10-8 in Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) play and went 15-15 overall last season. Morehead State had two All-OVC selections under Bozeman's assistance on the staff.

Prior to returning to the college basketball stage, Bozeman spent 12 years as a player development coach which included two stints as a travel club head coach and two stints as a high school basketball assistant. She also worked and developed training programs for Division I athletes throughout the 12-year period.

"I am incredibly honored to join the Saint Francis coaching staff and I am grateful to coach Whittington and the entire department for this opportunity," said Bozeman. "I am eager to collaborate with a talented and dedicated team. I looking forward to contributing to the rich tradition of the program and helping our team reach new heights."

Bozeman played four seasons at Morehead State from 2007-11 where she remains the Eagles' all-time leading scorer with 2,170 career points. She still ranks among the top-20 in OVC history. She was a two-time OVC Player of the Year in 2009-10 and 2010-11. She had her No. 2 jersey retired on Feb. 12, 2011 and was inducted into the Morehead State Hall of Fame Class of 2022.

"Chynna will focus on improving the individual skill sets of our guards, serve as the academic liaison and assists with scouting, recruiting and alumni relations," said head coach Keila Whittington. "With her decorated background as a player, she will also serve as a mentor to our young ladies on hard work and dedication to their craft."

Middleton earned a promotion to assistant coach after she served one season on the Saint Francis Staff as the director of operations. She will also continue her role as the team travel and equipment coordinator. During the 2023-24 season she assisted with drill work and team practices in addition to her director of operations responsibilities.

"I'm honored to be promoted to an assistant coaching position at Saint Francis," said Middleton. "I was able to observe what it's like being an assistant coach here after serving as the director of operations last season and I'm excited to implement my experience into the program. I am thankful for coach Whittington giving me this opportunity to help lead these young women towards success."

She joined the Saint Francis staff last season after she was a two-year assistant coach at Division III Washington and Jefferson College. The Presidents went 23-5 in her first season and were PAC Tournament Champions.

Middleton was a four-year player at Monmouth University and was a 2019-20 MAAC All-Tournament Team Selection. She averaged a career-high 9.3 points and 8.1 rebounds per game during her senior season in 2019-20 and started all-31 games with a team-high eight double-doubles. She appeared in 123 games in her career.

"I am pleased to promote Alexa to assistant coach, adding post player development to her responsibilities. She had a great career at Monmouth and is excited to share her knowledge of post play with our talented group."

Bozeman joined the Red Flash coaching staff ahead of the final two weeks of summer workouts, while Middleton assumed assistant coaching duties as the summer session progressed.
