Loretto, Pa. – Former Saint Francis University men's volleyball player Michael Marshman played for the U.S. Men's National Team for the second year in a row in the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation Pan American Cup from July 14-22 at the "Professor Ricardo Gioriber Arias" Volleyball Palace in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Starting in every match for the team, Marshman helped lead the U.S. to the championship game on Monday for the eight time since the tournament's inception in 2006. In a 3-2 semifinal win over Cuba on July 20, the former middle hitter recorded eight kills. Overall, he tallied more than five kills in all seven matches, including 13 in game three of pool play against Canada.
The U.S.'s second place finish was an improvement from Marshman's first year on the team. In 2023, the team made it to the quarterfinals. The country finished with its third silver medal at the tournament. The former middle hitter remains the lone Saint Francis player to participate in the cup.
Marshman played for the Red Flash from 2013-16. During his time in Loretto, he was an American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American honorable mention in 2016 along with a three-time All-Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) selection. He was a first-team honoree in his final two seasons (2015-16) and earned second-team honors in 2014.
In the 91 matches the former middle blocker played in, he tallied 304 blocks, which ranks seventh all-time in the program's history. He also accumulated 596 kills, 53 service aces, and a .386% hitting percentage.
During the 2016 season, he racked up 207 kills, 23 service aces, a .404 hitting percentage, and 110 total blocks, all career-highs for a season to help the Red Flash to a program-record 19 wins. The 110 blocks ranks seventh in program history.
Marshman elevated his play in the 2016 EIVA semifinal. Against top seeded Penn State, who had won 17 consecutive conference championships going into the match, the middle blocker recorded 11 kills, a .625 hitting percentage, and six total blocks to help the Red Flash advance to the championship game with a 3-1 win.
Marshman has played professionally in Europe since 2017. He first started with Louimu Raisio (2016-17) in Finland. Since 2017, the Red Flash alum has played for Le Plessis-Robinson Volley-Ball (2017-19) Cambrai Volley (2020-22), and Chaumont Volley-Ball 52(2023-24) in France. He will stay in the country to play for Tours Volley-Ball during the 2024-25 season.
