Saint Francis Women’s Swimming Prepares For Showdown With Millersville

OPENING DIVE VS MILLERSVILLE
>> Saint Francis women's swimming will travel to Millersville, Pa., to face the Marauders on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. in Anttonen Natatorium.
>> The Red Flash have won all three previous meetings against Millersville, most recently defeating them 182-80 on Senior Day last season.

THE WORD ON THE MARAUDERS
Millersville enters the season without having competed in a meet but returns a strong core of swimmers from last year.

Key returners include Leah Eckert, Jillian Fidelman, Molly Kawash, Jane McClelland, Kate Pelagatti, Anna Sassaman, Madison Taylor, Claire Weaver, and Izabella Wreski.

LAST TIME WE MET THE MARAUDERS
Saint Francis dominated Millersville 182-80 at home on Senior Day, honoring nine seniors before the meet. 

Bridget Kurtzweil, Taylor Weth, Anna Bernasconi and Oksana Horova kicked off the day with a win in the 200-yard medley relay (1:47.90).

Sara Blanco took first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.82), Weth won both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke (1:08.09, 2:30.46), and Alyssa Giovinazzo captured the 200-yard butterfly with Ava Silva finishing second. Bernasconi also won the 50-yard freestyle (24.80), while Horova claimed the 100-yard freestyle (53.37).

The Red Flash closed with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay from Horova, Reegan Brown, Kathryn Tanis and Bernasconi (1:38.93).


LAST TIME OUT
Sara Turner led the way with top-five finishes in the 400-yard individual medley (2nd, 4:37.06) and 200-yard butterfly (4th, 2:12.13). Maura Rubio added a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke and second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.53).

Morgan Moniz (5th, 1650 free), Tanis (top-15, 50 and 100 free), Brown (top-15, 50 free), Weth (7th, 200 breaststroke; 11th, 100 fly), Laryssa Webster (top-10, 100 fly), Abby King, Ava Bosetti, Ella Anderson, and Katie Webster all contributed valuable points for the team.

Standout swims from Turner and Rubio earned them NEC Prime Performer honors at the Colgate Invitational.

NEXT TIME OUT
Saint Francis will travel to Brooklyn, N.Y., to face LIU on Saturday, Oct. 25, with the meet set to begin at 11 a.m.

PRESEASON POLL
Saint Francis women's swimming was selected to finish fourth in the 2025 Northeast Conference (NEC) preseason poll, as voted on by league coaches. The Red Flash look to build on a strong 2024 campaign that saw them place third at the NEC Championships. 

CCSU was picked first with four first-place votes, followed by Howard, Wagner, and Saint Francis rounding out the top four. LIU, Stonehill, and Le Moyne completed the poll. 

ABOUT THE COACH
Phil Hurley enters his sixth season as head coach of the Saint Francis women's swimming program in 2025–26, bringing over 15 years of collegiate coaching experience. Hurley led the Red Flash to multiple individual podium finishes at the NEC Championships and strong performances in dual meets and invitationals, including home-and-home series against Duquesne and a fourth-place conference finish in 2019–20. 

Prior to Saint Francis, Hurley was head coach at Lock Haven University and served as men's and women's assistant coach at South Dakota State University, where he coached Summit League champions, helped athletes reach NCAA Division I "B" cut standards, and oversaw recruiting. He also was a graduate assistant at George Mason University and has extensive club and high school coaching experience. 

Hurley swam collegiately at Dickinson College, where he was a four-year letter-winner, three-year team captain, All-Conference performer, and school record holder. He earned a B.A. in economics from Dickinson and a master's in exercise, fitness, and health promotion from George Mason. A native of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Hurley also served as an officer in the United States Army. 

Under his guidance, the Red Flash have excelled in both the pool and the classroom, consistently producing competitive performances and strong academic results.
