Red Flash Men’s Soccer Drop First NEC Points In 1–0 Loss at Howard

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> The Red Flash dropped their first NEC points of the season in a close 1–0 loss on the road at Howard.
>> Multiple players created quality chances and found the target, but Saint Francis couldn't find the equalizer.
>> Despite the result, Saint Francis still leads the all-time series 12–2–1 against Howard, with back-to-back shutout wins prior to this meeting.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
The decisive moment came in the 39th minute when Howard capitalized on a key chance to take a 1–0 lead just before halftime. 

Moments earlier, the Red Flash nearly broke through themselves, hitting the post only three minutes prior to the Bison's goal. 

 Despite continued pressure in the second half, Saint Francis couldn't find the equalizer. 

FLASH MOMENTS 
Diego Garciarena kept the Red Flash in the game early, making his first save in the 27th minute to keep the Bison off the board.  Just a minute later, Álvaro Planas fired the team's first shot on goal with a powerful strike. In the 36th minute, Thiago Pires nearly gave Saint Francis the lead, hitting the post on a close attempt.

In the second half, Alex De Nittis tested the Howard goalkeeper in the 58th minute, followed by defender Andre Isreal forcing another save in the 62nd. Volkan Celikkol kept the pressure on in the 75th minute with a shot that earned a corner kick, and Ryan Seaman had an effort in the 82nd minute that also forced a save.

Garciarena closed out the game with a second crucial stop in the 89th minute, keeping the Red Flash within striking distance until the final whistle.

Freshman Harry Elmore made his first conference start for the Red Flash.

Saint Francis men's soccer returns home to Stokes Soccerplex on Sunday, Oct. 26, to host FDU at 3:00 p.m. in NEC action.  

The Red Flash will look to improve upon their perfect 3–0 home record in conference play this season.
