THE LINEUP IN LYNCHBURG:
This year's Liberty Invite features a competitive six-team field.
Host Liberty enters the weekend with several strong early-season results, including dual-meet victories over ECU, Tulane, Campbell, and FIU, while sophomore standout Fabiana Bozzuto recently earned American Conference Swimming Athlete of the Week.
Ohio University brings momentum after conference wins over Buffalo, Marshall, and Ball State, highlighted by MAC Swimmer of the Week honors for Lili Szoke.
Campbell has posted season-best swims throughout October and competed closely with Liberty in a two-day dual.
UNC Pembroke arrives following a record-setting month that included multiple NCAA B-cut swims and Conference Carolinas weekly honors for Noelie Lacour and Kennice Greene.
California (Pa.) rounds out the field after earning six event wins at its beginning season tri-meet and continuing to build depth across sprint and stroke events.
REWIND: LAST YEAR'S INVITE
Saint Francis earned a third-place finish at last year's Liberty Invite, recording multiple top-eight performances across the three-day meet. The Red Flash placed several relays inside the top five and produced strong individual results in the IM, butterfly, breaststroke, and mid-distance freestyle events.
SFU's depth across classes helped the team maintain consistent scoring through prelims and finals, setting the stage for another competitive mid-season showing this year.
PREVIOUS ACTION:
Saint Francis enters the Liberty Invite following a dominant 203–72 win over Lock Haven, where the Red Flash controlled the meet from start to finish. SFU opened with a statement in the 200 medley relay, as Maura Rubio, Taylor Weth, Reegan Brown, and Joey Testa combined for a winning time of 1:52.53. Senior Morgan Moniz led the mid-distance group with victories in both the 200 freestyle (2:01.86) and 500 freestyle (5:32.14), while junior Reegan Brown added wins in the 100 back (1:02.50) and 100 free (56.46).
Junior Kathryn Tanis swept the breaststroke events with times of 1:08.11 in the 100 and 2:29.77 in the 200, and senior Sara Turner continued her strong form by winning the 200 butterfly (2:10.82) and 200 IM (2:11.88). Sophomore Katie Webster posted top-three finishes in the sprint and backstroke events.
Saint Francis closed out the meet with a sweep of the 200 freestyle relays, highlighted by a winning 1:40.73 from Rubio, Webster, Brown, and Tanis, securing the team's fifth consecutive victory over Lock Haven.
UP NEXT:
Saint Francis will resume competition in early January at the St. Petersburg Classic Relays, held during the team's annual winter training trip.
The Red Flash will travel to St. Petersburg over New Year's Eve to begin an intensive training block aimed at sharpening race readiness for the back half of the season. The invitational will provide the team's first racing opportunity of the new year and an important step in preparing for the upcoming NEC Championships.
GUIDING THE FLASH: HURLEY AND ROBINSON LEAD THE WAY:
Assistant coach Carrie Robinson is in her first season with the Red Flash, working alongside head coach Phil Hurley to guide the program's continued growth in training and performance. Robinson joins SFU after a successful two-year stint at St. Lawrence University, where she helped produce numerous personal-bests, conference finalists, and program records. A former collegiate swimmer and team captain at Hiram College, she brings experience across multiple strokes and levels of coaching.
Hurley enters his sixth season leading Saint Francis, bringing more than 15 years of collegiate coaching experience and a track record that includes NEC podium finishes, strong invitational results, and consistent academic success.
Together, Hurley and Robinson provide strong leadership on deck as the Red Flash continue to build momentum this season.
