WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Saint Francis wrapped up a strong three-day showing at the Liberty Invitational in Lynchburg, Va., battling through a deep six-team field and producing numerous finals appearances, strong relay performances, and a wave of personal bests. The Red Flash faced host Liberty, Ohio, Campbell, UNC Pembroke, and California (Pa.) in a full prelims-and-finals format that tested depth across all events.

Building off their dominant November win over Lock Haven, SFU carried momentum into one of the most competitive meets on their schedule.

Under the direction of head coach Phil Hurley and first-year assistant Carrie Robinson, the Red Flash continued to show consistency and progress across strokes and classes as the team shifted toward the winter training phase of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Red Flash opened the invitational with a sharp, season-best 1:37.09 in the 4x50 freestyle relay, powered by Katie Webster, Maura Rubio, Reegan Brown, and Kathryn Tanis, setting an early tone of competitive relay execution.

In the 200 IM, Sara Turner qualified for the A-final and clocked a strong 2:06.08, marking one of the program's best mid-season IM swims. Taylor Weth followed with an impressive 2:07.60 in the B-final, while freshman Ava Bosetti dropped to a personal-best 2:18.29.

The 4x50 medley relay brought more momentum as Rubio, Weth, Laryssa Webster, and Brown combined for a clean 1:45.46. The B-relay—featuring Turner, Bosetti, Joey Testa, and Abbey Kutchel also performed at a high level, with Turner clocking a personal best in the 50 yard backstroke.

The butterfly group produced another strong session. Senior Webster and Junior Brown advanced to the A-final in the 100 fly, posting 57.92 and 58.33. Freshman Ella Anderson surged to a personal best of 58.90 in the B-final, continuing her rapid early-season progression.

One of the meet's highlights came in the 400 IM, where Turner powered to a 4:26.06 in the A-final—one of her fastest collegiate swims. Freshman Maya Daughtery delivered a breakout performance in the B-final, posting a massive nine-second drop for a 5:00.33, one of the biggest improvements of the entire invite.

The Red Flash added more depth in the 200 freestyle, with Morgan Moniz, Brown, and Webster all returning for finals and hitting season-best times. Freshman Abby King also recorded a personal best during the meet, continuing her steady rise in her first season of collegiate competition.

UP NEXT:
Saint Francis returns to competition on January 5 at the St. Petersburg Classic Relays during the team's annual winter training trip—an important early-January tune-up ahead of the championship phase of the season.

GUIDING THE FLASH: HURLEY & ROBINSON:
Assistant coach Carrie Robinson, in her first season with the Red Flash, continues to support stroke development, race strategy, and technical progression across all groups. She joins head coach Phil Hurley, now in his sixth year leading the program, whose leadership has helped SFU produce consistent invitational success, NEC Championship momentum, and strong academic performance.

Together, Hurley and Robinson guide a roster that continues to show growth in both racing sharpness and training intensity as the Red Flash move toward the winter block and spring championship season.
