TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
Saint Francis picked up right where they left off from the last game with confidence. They went on a 11-3 run to take the initial lead thanks to Alexandra Sappia setting up Paloma Gonzalez Jaramillo for a kill. Alyssa Irwin collected three kills, Kori McClure had two kills and an assisted block, and Korrin Burns had one kill to aid in the large gap. Sappia recorded seven assists and an assisted block, while Alexa Chapla threw in a service ace. After some back and forth exchanged points, Sappia set up Gwen Atkins on the right side for her collected set point. The Red Flash continued to not give the Cougars a chance and took the next two sets, giving them a clean sweep.
FLASH MOMENTSÂ
The Red Flash once again had a hot start to the second set, going on a 12-2 surge with a 5-3 lead. McClure and Atkins led the run getting antsy off the start, collected a kill each. Irwin proceeded to get the next three points for Saint Francis by herself off of three kills. Within this surge, the Red Flash powered a 7-0 run thanks to numerous players. Irwin had a kill and assisted block, Sappia had an assist and assisted block, Chandler Alter had two aces, and Alexa Chapla registered a kill. Burns and Irwin closed out the set with a kill each to gain the set win. Â
Not one, not two, but three strong starts for the Red Flash as they went on a 5-1 run in the third set. It was started by a Chapla ace, then followed by a huge duo block by Burns and McClure. Burns found herself putting the ball down on Chicago States side once more time. This run was wrapped up by a McClure kill and Sappia ace. Â
To secure the final set, Saint Francis went on an 8-1 run. Atkins slammed the ball across the court to inspire an error on the Cougars side. In hopes of changing the tide, Chicago State called a timeout, but that did not stop the Red Flash. McClure collected another kill and ace, while Gonzalez Jaramillo had two kills to give the win to Saint Francis. Â
FLASH NUGGETS
Burns, the seven-time NEC Player of the Week and NEC Prime Performer, recorded 14 kills and 11 digs. Burns added these kills to her season total, bringing the new program record to 505 kills and counting. Burns notched her 24th career double-double.Â
McClure, a NEC Player of the Week and three-time NEC Prime Performer, finished with nine kills, six digs, and a hitting percentage of .500. Â
Atkins had 11 kills and eight digs. This is the fifth time she has hit double figures.Â
Sappia finished the match with 47 assists, five digs, and two assisted blocks. Sappia has earned NEC Prime Performer distinction each week of the 2025 season. With these 47 assists, Sappia is now in third place in program history with 1,052. Â
Gonzalez Jaramillo collected nine kills. Â
Irwin recorded 11 kills on the evening. This is the sixth time that Irwin has hit double digits in her career. Â
Alter grabbed 11 digs, allowing her to touch her 10th double digit game for Saint Francis.Â
NEXT ON TAP
The Red Flash are back in DeGol for its last regular season series against Le Moyne on November 14 and 15. Saint Francis will be celebrating its senior night on Saturday the 15.
