THE WORD ON ROBERTS WESLEYAN
The Roberts Wesleyan men's volleyball team is in its second year of existence. The Redhawks have started off the 2025 campaign with a 7-13 overall record and a 1-2 record against the East Coast Conference. They are 0-6 versus fellow Northeast Conference (NEC) opponents in FDU (2 matches), Daemen (2 matches), LIU and D'Youville heading into Saturday's contest. Roberts Wesleyan's last bout against the conference will be on Monday, March 17.
Their offense is led by three players who have accumulated more than 100 kills in Paul Fillion (165), Griffin Monrad (163), and Ryan DeJohn (147). Setter Landon Brouwer is the engine of the offense, racking up team highs of 547 assists and 20 service aces.
Moises Jimenez (166), Brouwer (101), and DeJohn (100) have tallied triple-digit digs for the Redhawks.Â
In the middle, Patrick Bodecker leads the way in blocks with 34 (9 solo).
LAST TIME WE MET THE REDHAWKS
Saturday will be the first time the two teams will face one another.
Saint Francis dueled against fellow ECC opponent Dominican on February 21-22. The squads split the series, with the Red Flash claiming a 3-1 victory on the 22nd.
LAST TIME OUT
Saint Francis took a trip to the Carolinas to play against Queens University of Charlotte and Erskine March 4-5. The Red Flash dropped the first match to the Royals, but bounced back with a four set win over the Flying Fleet the following night.
Kyle Charles,
Andrew Deardorff, and
Michael Mosbacher earned NEC weekly awards for their performances. Charles claimed First Point/NEC Defensive Player of the Week, Rookie of the Week, and prime performer. Deardorff was named Player of the Week and prime performer. Mosbacher rounded out the honors with a prime performer selection.
Charles continued his stellar rookie season with statistics of 87 assists (10.88 per set), 23 digs, three blocks, three kills, and one ace combined between last week's matches. The freshman setter increased his season total number of assists to 526.
Deardorff collected 31 kills, 10 digs, eight service aces, three assists, and one block through the two matches. The senior outside hitter posted 16 and 15 slams to claim his 11th and 12th match of double-digit kills in the last 13 contests. In the second contest against Erskine, he achieved a career-high seven service aces, the most by a Red Flash player since Marc Honore's seven versus Rutgers-Newark on March 9, 2007.
Deardorff leads the team with 246 kills and 31 aces.
Mosbacher achieved his second prime performer of the 2025 campaign after recording 30 kills, seven digs, three blocks, and three aces in the two battles last week. The senior outside hitter had a season-high 19 kills in the first match against Queens and followed it up with 11 the next night. He is up to 119 slams this season.
The Red Flash defense is commanded by libero
Richard Kaminski, who is now in triple digits for digs with 103. Middle blocker
Sam Lane is the leader in blocks with 38.
