Women's Volleyball Ends Home Tournament 2-1

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Alexandra Sappia had 86 assists combined, bringing her 20+ assists per match streak to 21. 
>> The Red Flash ended the weekend 2-1 at its home classic. 
>> Saint Francis beat Lafayette (26-24, 25-21, 25-13, 25-20, 15-12) and lost to Youngstown State (25-20, 25-22, 25-22).


TURNING POINT OF THE GAME VS LAFAYETTE
Late in the fourth, Saint Francis utilized a timeout by taking a 6-3 advantage to shift the momentum and helped the Red Flash take the set, forcing a winner-take-all fifth. This run was paced by kills from Korrin Burns, Sappia, and Paloma Gonzalez Jaramillo. Hailey Atkins also threw in an ace leading to a Kori McClure final kill.  

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME VS YOUNGSTOWN STATE
In the first set, after back-and-forth points between the Penguins and the Red Flash, a Burns kill put the two teams at a standstill at 19. Youngstown State took seven of the next nine points and never looked back, claiming the win 3-0.  

FLASH MOMENTS VS LAFAYETTE
Saint Francis came out hot going on an early 7-2 run. Aaliyah Toppin produced her first kill from a Burns assist and second kill by a Sappia assist. Alyssa Irwin led the Red Flash with three kills and Gwen Atkins added a service ace to put Saint Francis on top. The Red Flash went on a 3-0 run thanks to an Irwin and Burns kill to secure the first set.  

After Lafayette took the lead 17-11, G. Atkins slammed a ball down the right side for a kill to give Saint Francis some fuel for a 6-2 run. Help came from outside hitter Toppin and middle blocker Irwin to collect two more kills for the Red Flash. 

The Red Flash had fire in its eyes as it took an early 6-1 with a kill from McClure and an ace from Burns. Saint Francis kept ahead the rest of the set with Burns adding in two kills, a Gonzalez Jaramillo kill, and a huge statement kill from McClure to take the victory 3-2.  

FLASH MOMENTS VS YOUNGSTOWN STATE
The Red Flash utilized three errors by Youngstown State before Burns threw down two kills and one from McClure.  

Saint Francis started the second set on fire with a 4-0 run. It was powered by a McClure kill set up by a Sappia assist. Sappia stayed on a roll with back-to-back service aces, followed by a set up for another McClure kill. The Red Flash kept its groove by starting up a 6-2 run midway through the set. Irwin laid down the hammer with a kill in the middle. This fueled Burns to go on a four-kill streak, although it was not enough to take the set.  

FLASH NUGGETS
Burns collected a total of 39 kills and 17 digs on the day. Including another 20+ kill game to bring her to her 11th of her career. She also recorded another double-double, bringing her to 15.  

McClure threw in 17 kills, six digs, and three assisted blocks. 

G. Atkins added 12 kills and 20 digs collectively. 

Sappia accumulated 53 assists and seven digs in the second match. She also added 33 assists, six digs, and two assisted blocks in the first game.  

Toppin added 11 kills to the Red Flash collection. 

Irwin batted down several swings giving her five assisted blocks from the day and 16 kills. 

Chandler Alter grabbed seven digs during the morning match and nine digs in the evening match.  

All-Tournament team selections are senior Korrin Burns and junior Alexandra Sappia (Saint Francis University), freshman Layne Graffice and Brie Habeeb (Youngstown State), junior Doga Diraz (Siena College), and senior Emily Gouldrup (Lafayette College).

The Red Flash are back on the road as they travel to New Jersey as they begin a three-game stretch.
