HOW IT HAPPENED:
Day one of the 2026 NEC Championships opened with the 200-yard medley relay and 800-yard freestyle relay on Tuesday night at the SPIRE Institute. Saint Francis got the meet started in the 200 medley relay with the A relay of Maura Rubio (back), Taylor Weth (breast), Laryssa Webster (fly), and Reegan Brown (free), finishing fifth overall in a time of 1:44.13, dropping over a second from their entry time.
The Red Flash followed with a strong showing in the 800-yard freestyle relay, where the A relay of Kathryn Tanis, Katie Webster, Morgan Moniz, and Sara Turner touched in 7:44.45 to place fourth overall. The women entered the meet seeded fifth and dropped more than 12 seconds from their seed time, earning 30 points for Saint Francis and providing a major early boost to the team score.
After the opening night of competition, the Red Flash sit in fifth place overall in the team standings.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The NEC Championships continue Wednesday with morning prelims beginning at 10:00 a.m. and finals set for 6:00 p.m. The morning event lineup includes the 500 freestyle, the 200 individual medley, and the 50 freestyle. The night session will be highlighted by the 200-yard freestyle relay, another key scoring opportunity as Saint Francis looks to climb the team standings.
