WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Saint Francis softball lost its second game of the day to South Carolina Upstate, 12-1, on Friday afternoon at Cyrill Softball Stadium in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
Despite Saint Francis's attempt at a comeback at the top of the fourth inning, Towson escaped the jam and responded immediately with a double to right-center field, quickly scoring two runs to extend the lead beyond the reach of the Red Flash.
Game two followed a similar theme: despite the Red Flash jumping out to an early lead, the Spartans responded in the bottom half of the same inning. Upstate broke through with a one-two punch of an RBI triple and a two-run home run to right field, giving them a 3-2 lead that they never relinquished.
FLASH MOMENTSÂ
In the first game, at the top of the fourth inning, the Red Flash took its first lead of the season when sophomore Morgan Pasternak reached on a fielder's choice, allowing sophomore Sofia Zielinski and junior Aliya Garroway to score, giving Saint Francis a 2-0 lead over the Towson Tigers. Pasternak wasn't done for the day, driving in pinch runner junior Lilly Hicks with a single to center field, cutting Towson's lead to 4-3.
In Game 2, Zielinski hit a two-run blast to deep right-center, giving Saint Francis its first runs of the game and a 2-0 lead. That home run was her first of the season and the ninth of her Red Flash career.
