Saint Francis women's tennis defeated LIU 6-1 in a crucial NEC match Saturday afternoon at the Gorilla House Gym in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
HOW IT HAPPENED
For the first time in four matches, the Red Flash were unable to claim the doubles point in today's matchup. However, the duo of freshman Helena Lynn and sophomore Dasha Chichkina secured their fourth straight victory over their Shark opponents, 7-6 (7-5).
On the singles courts, the Red Flash were dominant, winning all six of their matches. The winning began on court one, where Chichkina captured her fifth straight singles win, 6-2, 6-2. Senior Kelly Dowuona bounced back on court two after dropping the first set of her match, winning the next two sets to earn her 16th victory by a score of 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-2. Lynn controlled her match, guiding it to a 6-2, 6-4 decision. On courts three and four, freshman Gabriela Almanza and junior Reagen Mangan also won their matches, each by a 6-2, 6-2 final score. Wrapping up today's victorious match was sophomore Morgan Tuffs, who earned a hard-fought 6-2, 6-4 result.
NEXT TIME OUT
The Saint Francis women's tennis team is back in action next weekend on Friday, March 27, as it travels to Mercyhurst for a match at the Westwood Racquet Club in Erie, Pennsylvania, slated for a 5 p.m. start.
