Red Flash Women's Tennis Selected as Second Seed in the NEC Women's Tennis Conference Playoffs
Following the committee meeting late Monday afternoon, Saint Francis's women's tennis team has been officially seeded second and will face the seventh-seeded Chicago State team on April 16 at 11:30 a.m. in the NEC women's tennis championship tournament quarterfinal, hosted at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J.
If Saint Francis defeats Chicago State, they will advance to the semifinal to face either LIU or Le Moyne on Friday, April 17, at 8 a.m. A win there will send the Red Flash to the championship game on Saturday, April 18, at 10 a.m.
The last time the Red Flash participated in the NEC women's tournament was last season, when Saint Francis beat the seventh seed, Binghamton, and the sixth seed, Wagner, before falling to the first seed, FDU, in the championship game, 4-1.
Coach Hovan, in an interview immediately after the announcement, was quoted as saying, "I'm excited to see us recognized as the No. 2 seed. We've had a really good season and are playing at a very high level heading into the tournament. I absolutely love how hard we play and compete. Now it's about surviving and advancing in each match, so we plan to lock in on each opponent and hope to still be playing on Saturday!"
