TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
After FDU took the second set 25-20 using some newfound fuel, the Red Flash needed to claim the third set early. FDU led 12-10 but the Red Flash went on a much needed power run. Charles set up Gall for a huge kill down the middle. The Knights then created two back-to-back errors to aid Saint Francis. Brady Stump grabbed a kill right before claiming a duo block with Sam Lane to put the set at a media timeout. FDU had two more attacking errors that gave the Red Flash more momentum. Charles threw up a high ball for Stump to nab a kill to force the Knights to call a timeout. Nathan Zini collected the final kill that gave Saint Francis the third set. They carried that same momentum into the fourth set to take the match 3-1.
FLASH QUOTES
"Boy did FDU bring it today. I'm so impressed with how they played. The scouting report was dead on with us. Jamal Ellis was unbelievably good. I thought FDU deserved a big round of applause. I'm really glad that our guys rose to the challenge and fought hard to get that win. FDU did not give it to us." - head coach Mike Rumbaugh.
FLASH MOMENTS
Early in the first set, Saint Francis went on a light 4-0 run to take a 5-2 lead. Sophomore Charles aided the Red Flash in a huge way. He registered two assists, one to Lane and Cole Dorn, and then a kill. The kill was set up by Dorn for Charles to send right down the middle. Senior outside hitter Stump topped off the set with an ace. The Red Flash were not satisfied with that run, so they went on another one but this time 7-1. Points came from Brayden Gall, Zini, and Stump.
During the middle of the fourth set, Saint Francis went on a little 4-0 run to regain the lead. Zini had the first kill to spark energy followed by a Lane kill, both of which were set up by Charles. After an attacking error by FDU, Zini recorded another service ace.
