SOPHOMORE (2016-17) – Went 1-1 in singles and 2-3 in doubles this season, playing all of his matches in the Spring… At No. 6 singles, defeated Howard’s Cole Gittens, 6-1, 6-4… Combined with Franz Luna in doubles for wins over Wright State’s Estrada Sanchez/Holloway (6-0) and Howard’s Ragu/Shokeir (6-3).

FRESHMAN (2015-16) – Second Team All-NEC at No. 6 singles… NEC Rookie of the Week on March 17… Went 9-10 in singles and 7-15 in doubles… 2-3 in singles and 1-3 in doubles in the Fall, competing at the Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Invitational, Bucknell Invite and Rocket Invite… Competed at No. 5 and 6 singles for a 7-6 dual match record. Went 2-0 at No. 5 and 5-6 at No. 6. Went 2-1 in NEC matches and won a match at the NEC Tournament… Paired with Eli Cerdan and Rodrigo Tico in doubles for a 6-12 mark in dual matches. Combined with Cerdan for a 2-4 record, including 2-1 in dual matches. Paired with Tico for a 5-11 record, with a 4-11 mark in dual matches. Won a match at the NEC Tournament.

BEFORE SFU - The top ranked player in his region, van der Heijden joined the Red Flash after graduating as the top student at his school and was ranked among the top 10 percent in the entire country. He was also ranked among the Top 20 juniors in the country as an 18 year-old and 16 year-old.  Van der Heijden was a doubles quarterfinalist at the national championships.
