Carissa Makea scored the eventual game winning goal for the Red Flash in a 4-1 Northeast Conference opening weekend victory over Monmouth. With SFU already up 1-0, the sophomore took a pass from Kellie Mason and drove toward the cage to tally her ninth goal of the season on a hard near-post shot. The Hawks put one on the board but that's all they would get. Later in the contest Makea dished out an assist on the final goal of the game coming off of a penalty corner.
