LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 26, 2007) – Freshman
Haleigh Dunyon (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson) (Long Beach, Calif. / Woodrow Wilson) scored her third goal of the season in the 48th minute to help lead the Saint Francis women's soccer team to a crucial 1-0 Northeast Conference victory over Mount Saint Mary's on Friday afternoon at a soggy Stokes Soccer Complex.
Dunyon blocked a clearing attempt inside the 18-yard box and found the ball at her feet. She was able to chip the ball over goalkeeper Anna Lebo's head from 16 yards out to give the Red Flash a 1-0 edge at 48 minutes, 15 seconds.
Saint Francis has now won two straight matches for the first time since the weekend of Sept. 5. The win improved the Red Flash to 5-8-3 overall, and 2-2-2 in the NEC. The win also keeps them in the hunt for an NEC playoff berth with three matches remaining in the season. Saint Francis will play host to first-place Monmouth beginning at Noon on Sunday.
The Red Flash outshot the Mount 17-9 in the contest, including 11-4 in the first half. Sophomore goalkeeper
Jessica Boyer (Pittsburgh, Pa/Mount Lebanon) (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mount Lebanon) stopped two shots in the win. Lebo made 10 saves in keeping Mount Saint Mary's within striking distance.
The Mount had several good opportunities in the first half, but were unable to capitalize. Meghan Haspert nearly gave them a 1-0 lead at 54:11, but her shot went just wide of the goal post.
Dunyon almost made it 2-0 seconds after coming off the bench with just under 10 minutes remaining. On a play very similar to her goal, she came up with a steal and launched a shot that Lebo was able to knock away.
