Senior Day Spoiled For Saint Francis Women’s Soccer Team

LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 28, 2007) – Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Boyer (Pittsburgh, Pa/Mount Lebanon) (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mount Lebanon) stopped eight shots, but the Saint Francis women's soccer team suffered a critical 1-0 Northeast Conference loss against Monmouth on senior day at the Stokes Soccer Complex.



The Hawks' Gianna Russo scored her first goal of the season after getting past Boyer inside the 18-yard box. Boyer came out to the play the ball, but Russo tipped it past her and then slammed it into an empty net for the only goal of the game at 61 minutes, 14 seconds.



The Red Flash fell to 5-9-3 overall, and 2-3-2 in the Northeast Conference. Saint Francis now needs to win its last two matches along with receiving some help to clinch an NEC playoff berth.



Monmouth's Lia Fierro stopped three shots in goal, two of which were terrific.



Red Flash junior Jennilee Morrison (Jeannette, Pa./Jeannette) (Jeannette, Pa. / Jeannette) released a hard shot from 12 yards out at 22:43, but Fierro made a leaping save to keep the match scoreless.



She made another leaping save at 72:25 to preserve the Hawks' lead. Sophomore Denise Eckert (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) (Rochester, N.Y. Greece Arcadia) played a perfect free kick from midfield into the 18-yard box. Freshman Haleigh Dunyon (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson) (Long Beach, Calif. / Woodrow Wilson) got a head on the ball and Fierro jumped to knock it away.



Monmouth held a 20-5 advantage in shots and an 11-4 edge in corner kicks.
