LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 7, 2007) – The Saint Francis women's soccer team bounced back from an early deficit and then hit the post three times in settling for a 1-1 double overtime draw with Sacred Heart in Northeast Conference action on Sunday at the Stokes Soccer Complex.
Freshman
Chelsea Traurig (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) (McMurray, Pa. / Peters Township) scored her second goal in as many NEC contests to pull the Red Flash even at 1-1 at 22 minutes, 42 seconds. She received a perfect pass from junior
Alanna Vespa (Ancaster, Ontario/Saint Mary’s Catholic) (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada / Saint Mary's Catholic) on a breakaway and then put the ball into the lower left corner.
Saint Francis moved its overall record to 3-7-2 overall, and 0-1-1 in the NEC. The Red Flash will try for their first conference win on the road when they travel to Central Connecticut State and Quinnipiac on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead at 15:55 on Alex Mack's first goal of the season. Britney Dupee sent a cross into the box from right to left and Dupee one-touched it into the lower right corner.
Traurig scored her third goal of the season at 22:42 to pull SFU even. The Red Flash continued to press and had several scoring opportunities throughout the remainder of the contest.
Sophomore
Brittni Grenninger (Chicora, Pa/Karns City ) (Chicora, Pa. / Karns City) chipped a ball over goalkeeper Meghan Reichelt at 46:39, but the ball hit the cross bar and bounced down and harmlessly away. Just 50 seconds later, sophomore
Rachael Seibert (Murrysville, Pa/Franklin Regional) (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional) headed a ball into the post, and then freshman
Jessica Meurer (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) (Cranberry, Township, Pa. / Seneca Valley) hit the post on a shot attempt at 74:42. Meurer's shot into the post came just seconds after she found herself on a breakaway, but was stopped at point blank range.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Jessica Boyer (Pittsburgh, Pa/Mount Lebanon) (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mount Lebanon) stopped four shots in the match, while Reichelt made seven saves for the Pioneers.
