Alyssa Kersey fires game-winner at Wagner

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Nov. 2, 2007) – The Saint Francis University women's soccer team evened its Northeast Conference record at 3-3-2 on Friday with a 2-1 victory at Wagner. The Red Flash have now won three of their last four matches to raise their record to 6-9-3 overall.

Sophomore Brittni Grenninger (Chicora, Pa/Karns City ) (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) opened up the scoring for the Flash, booting her second goal of the season in the match 49th minute. Freshman Chelsea Traurig (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) was credited with an assist on the feed.

Just a minute later, Saint Francis extended its lead to 2-0 on an Alyssa Kersey (Clay, N.Y/Cicero-North Syracuse) (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) penalty kick. The goal was the first of the year and eighth different Red Flash player to score on the season.

Overall, the Flash out-shot the Seahawks 13-9, but Wagner held a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Boyer (Pittsburgh, Pa/Mount Lebanon) (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) made sure that stat was a meaningless one by making four saves in her 90 minutes in net.

The Red Flash will close their season on Sunday when they travel to Long Island for a 1 p.m. match.
