Early Flash Goal Doesn’t Hold Up in Field Hockey Loss Versus Lehigh

LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 11, 2007) – Junior Belen Albanes (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody) (Atlanta, Ga. / Dunwoody) scored her second goal of the season less than two minutes in, but the Saint Francis field hockey team surrendered three unanswered goals in a 3-1 loss versus Lehigh on Tuesday night at DeGol Field.

Albanes received a pass from sophomore Allison Severage (Garwood, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) (Garwood, N.J. / Arthur L. Johnson) inside the circle, and put it past freshman goalkeeper Jessica Miller for a 1-0 Red Flash lead 1 minute, 53 seconds into the contest. It was the first career point for Severage.

But Kelly Fox put away a Kalynn Davies pass at 11:51 to tie the match, and Kara Zweizig got credit for the game-winner just 24 seconds before haltime to give the Mountain Hawks a 2-1 lead.

Davies then put away a goal of her own at 41:15 to give Lehigh an insurmountable 3-1 edge.

The Mountain Hawks held a 24-4 edge in shots, and junior SFU goalkeeper Erin Reifsteck (Battle Creek, Mich./Saint Phillip) (Battle Creek, Mich. / Saint Phillip) had another strong outing with 14 saves.

The Red Flash will return to action with a 4 p.m. contest on Friday, at Colgate.
