HANOVER, N.H. (Sept. 23, 2007) – The Saint Francis men's soccer team gave up two goals in less than a minute in the second half on its way to suffering a gut-wrenching 2-1 loss at Dartmouth on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Flash took a 1-0 lead when senior Andrew Stephens (Coppell, TX/Coppell) (Coppell, Texas / Coppell) scored his second goal of the season at 38 minutes, 58 seconds. Freshman Benjamin Kujawa (Jarrettsville, Md. / North Harford) recorded his first career assist on the play.
SFU took the slim lead into halftime, but Dartmouth began to assert more pressure in the second half after the Red Flash didn't allow a shot on goal in the first 45 minutes.
Craig Henderson locked the match at 1-1 after finding the ball at his feet during a scramble in front of the net. He put the ball past goalkeeper Brad Williams (San Lorenzo, CA/Arroyo) (San Lorenzo, Calif. / Arroyo) at 76:29 to tie the match.
Matt Carroll recorded his second assist when he crossed to Andrew Olsen, who put the ball past Williams at 77:19 to give Dartmouth the 2-1 lead.
Senior Jeremy Tice (Litteton, CO/Chatfield) (Littleton, Colo. / Chatfield) gave SFU its last chance in the final minutes, but Sean Milligan made one of his two saves in the match to preserve the win for Dartmouth.
Senior Bryan Maguire (McAllen, TX/Memorial) (Glasgow, Scotland / Memorial) was named the Defensive MVP of the tournament for his efforts.
The Red Flash (2-5) will be back in action at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday when they play host to Duquesne at the Stokes Soccer Complex.
