Saint Francis men's soccer head coach
Shelby Edwards has announced Saint Francis University 2025 graduate
Connor Oechslin as an assistant coach.
"I'm excited to welcome Coach Oechslin to our staff," said Edwards. "As a Saint Francis alumnus, he brings a unique perspective and strong connection to the university and program. His commitment, dedication, and playing experience will help us continue developing our student-athletes and accelerate the program's growth while maintaining the traditions and values that define Saint Francis University Men's Soccer. I'm eager to get to work alongside him as we continue building a program that will compete at a high level."
Oechslin, a Johnstown, Pa., native, got his start in coaching with a youth club during his sophomore year at Gardner-Webb, and has been coaching the U18's Team for an up-and-coming club, Johnstown United, for the last year.
"I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to become an assistant coach at Saint Francis University during a period of transition," said Oechslin. "The Saint Francis men's soccer program has always been one of on-the-field success, team culture, and academic excellence. As a former player, I intend to uphold the standards of what it means to play for this program and work with Head Coach
Shelby Edwards to build it into one where student-athletes can thrive on the field and in the classroom. I would like to thank Shane and Shelby for entrusting me with this role."
Oechslin spent his first two seasons playing collegiately at Gardner-Webb before transferring to Saint Francis for the 2024 season. He appeared in four games with one start with the Red Flash.
A three-time letterwinner at Westmont Hilltop High School in Johnstown, Pa., Oechslin was selected to the 2021 Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association all-state team and was a two-time all-Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference selection. He also played for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC Academy.
"Saint Francis men's soccer is about performance, resilience, and giving 100 percent every single training session and matchday," said Oechslin. "Those principles are intended to be unchanged. We are aligned in our goal to become a top Division III program, and we look forward to competing in the Presidents' Athletic Conference."
Oechslin graduated with a criminal justice degree from Saint Francis in 2025 and will receive his Master's Degree in Business Administration this weekend.
