LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 12. 2008) - Senior goalkeeper Erin Reifsteck (Battle Creek, Mich./Saint Phillip) made 3 saves and earned the first shut out of her career, which was also the first ever shutout in Saint Francis field hockey history to lead the Red Flash past Northeast Conference foe Siena 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in Loudonville.
The Flash, who put up a great effort on Friday evening in a 1-0 loss against Lock Haven, are now 1-1 in the NEC. They move to 2-11 overall, after defeating Bryant earlier in the season.
Scoring started 8:56 into the first half when senior forward Belen Albanes (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody) (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody), who is the all-time leading scorer in SFU history, tallied an unassisted goal after beating Saints goalkeeper Renee Clavette to give the Flash a 1-0 lead.
Freshman midfielder Claire Wilkie (Durban, South Africa/Danville Park Girls) (Durban, South Africa/Danville Park Girls) made it 2-0 early in the second half after tapping a feed from Albanes past Siena stopper Jennifer Tesak, who replaced Clavette for the second half.
Sophomore back Rebecca Reiff (Farmingdale, N.J./Wall) (Farmingdale, N.J./Wall) finished off the scoring for the Red Flash with 11 minutes left in the game. Reiff took a centering feed from Albanes, who had 4 points on the day, and sent it past Clavette to keep SFU ahead at 3-0.
The Flash out shot the Saints 13-5. Kristin McGorty and Meghan Williams had attempts on net for Siena but couldn't get past Reifsteck.
Saint Francis will travel to New Jersey for an NEC contest against Rider at 4 P.M. on October 17th in Lawrenceville.
