Red Flash Soccer Downed by Fairleigh Dickinson 3-2

TEANECK, N.J. (Oct. 24, 2008) Two goals weren't enough as the Saint Francis men's soccer team fell to the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson 3-2 on Friday afternoon in Teaneck.

The Red Flash, who are now 4-9-1 overall and 1-4-0 in the Northeast Conference, will continue on to Connecticut where they will take on the Sacred Heart Pioneers at 1 p.m. in Fairfield.

FDU started the scoring off 13:00 minutes into the first half when Christian Vasconez found Samson Malijani who directed the ball into the net past Red Flash goalkeeper Darius Motazed (North Vancouver, Canada/Sentinel Secondary) (North Vancouver, Canada/Sentinel Secondary) to put the Knights up 1-0.

That lead would not last for long, though, with the Flash striking back 1:30 later on a goal by Patrick Fleming (Dunedin, New Zealand/Bayfield) (Danedia, New Zealand/Bayfield). Fleming redirected a free kick into the lower left corner of the net to tie the game at 1-1.

Malijani got the lead back for the Knights 10 minutes later with his second goal of the game. Paul King won the ball and sent it over to Marcos Morales. Morales flipped it over to Malijani, who settled it with one touch before putting in the lower right corner of the net to regain the lead at 2-1.

Scoring didn't resume until seven minutes into the second half, when Malijani completed his hat trick on a penalty kick, widening the Knights' lead 3-1.

Daniel Moir (Christchurch, New Zealand/Shirley Boys)'s (Christchurch, New Zealand/Shirley Boys) headed the ball off of a corner kick, and Benjamin Kujawa (Jarrettsville, Md./North Hartford) (Jarretsville, Md./North Harford) redirected the rebound into the middle of the net to bring the score to 3-2, where it would stay for the remainder of the game. The goal was Kujawa's third of the season.

Motazed had 2 saves for the Red Flash, and Kights goalkeeper Majdi Zaineh had 4. The teams had 12 shots apiece, and the Flash took 7 corner kicks to the Kights' 3.
