Red Flash Soccer Shut Out at FDU 1-0

TEANECK, N.J. (Oct. 31, 2008) – The Saint Francis women's soccer team turned in a good effort, but couldn't find the back of the net as they fell to the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson 1-0 on Friday afternoon in Teaneck, N.J.

The Red Flash, who are now 7-6-5 this season, will travel to Connecticut to take on Sacred Heart in their final game of the regular season at in Fairfield. 

Both teams were scoreless for the majority of the game.  With less than eight minutes to play in the second half Knights forward Lora Lehr took a shot on net that was blocked by Red Flash goalkeeper Jessica Boyer (Pittsburgh, Pa/Mount Lebanon) (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon).  Lehr than grabbed her own rebound and tapped it into the middle of the net to put FDU up 1-0.

Junior defender Caitlin Vultaggio (Nashua, N.H./Lawrence Academy) (Nashua, N.H./Lawrence Academy) led the charge for the Flash with 3 shots, but couldn't put one on goal.  Senior forward Alanna Vespa (Ancaster, Ontario/Saint Mary’s Catholic) (Ancaster, Ontario/Saint Mary's Catholic) and junior forward Rachael Seibert (Murrysville, Pa/Franklin Regional) (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) had two shots each. 

The Flash totaled 11 shots, with 6 of those shots coming on goal.  The Knights took 16 shots, with midfielder Rashida Sherman making 6 attempts, followed by Lehr with 5. 

Boyer had 5 saves for the Flash, and Knights goalkeeper Rachel Derrico made 6 stops to secure a shut out.
