Dunyon’s Goal Not Enough as Red Flash Soccer Falls to Navy 2-1

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Sept. 28, 2008) - Sophomore midfielder Haleigh Dunyon (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson)'s (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson) first tally of the season was not enough as the Saint Francis women's soccer team fell to The United State Naval Academy 2-1 on Sunday in Annapolis. The loss was the second of the weekend for the Red Flash, as they also fell to Longwood 2-1 on Friday evening. They are now 3-3-4 this season.

The team returns home to start Northeast Conference play by hosting Central Connecticut State at 3:00 PM on Friday, October 3, at the Stokes Soccer Complex in Loretto.

The Midshipmen got on the board first, when Carey Young received a pass from teammate Christine Calderon and found the back of the net from 6 yards out less than 15 minutes into the first half to put Navy up 1-0.

Junior forward Rachael Seibert (Murrysville, Pa/Franklin Regional) (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) sent a pass over to Dunyon who's shot from 12 yards out got past Navy goalkeeper Lizzie Barnes to tie the game at 1-1 less than six minutes into the second half.. The goal was Dunyon's first of the season.

Carissa Youker then put the Midshipmen up 2-1 about six minutes later. Calderon crossed a pass over to Youker, who beat Red Flash goalkeeper Lauren Fearer (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant Area) (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant Area) on the left side.

Fearer had 5 saves in the game as the Midshipmen out shot the Red Flash 16-8. Junior Forward Brittni Grenninger (Chicora, Pa/Karns City ) (Chicora, Pa./Karns City), junior defender Caitlin Vultaggio (Nashua, N.H./Lawrence Academy) (Nashua, N.H./Lawrence Academy) and fellow junior defender Alyssa Kersey (Clay, N.Y/Cicero-North Syracuse) (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) all had a shot on goal each for the Red Flash.
