FAIRFIELD, Conn. (Oct. 30, 2009) – Sophomore goalkeeper Kate Vitali (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright)'s (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) eight saves weren't enough for the Saint Francis field hockey team as they dropped a 1-0 decision to the Sacred Heart Pioneers in a Northeast Conference match up in Fairfield, Conn., on Friday.
Vitali gave up a goal to SHU's Stephanie Fazio just two and a half minutes into the first half. After the Pioneers jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead, the Red Flash defense played a strong game. SHU attempted ten more shots, but couldn't put another on goal.
Junior Rebecca Reiff (Farmingdale, N.J./Wall) (Wall, N.J./Wall) lead the team with two shots. Sophomore Claire Wilkie (Durban, South Africa/Danville Park Girls) (Durban, South Africa/Danville Park Girls) also attempted to score, but couldn't find the back of the net.
Sacred Heart outshot the Red Flash 11-3, and had eight penalty corners to SFU's two. Saint Francis will wrap up the regular season at Quinnipiac on Sunday.
