Red Flash Suffer Disappointing Season-Ending Defeat Against Robert Morris

LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 6, 2009) – The Saint Francis men's soccer team surrendered a first half goal and couldn't capitalize on 25 shots in a season-ending 1-0 loss against Northeast Conference rival Robert Morris, on Friday at the Stokes Soccer Field.

The Colonials got a goal from David Torrance at 9 minutes, 52 seconds and survived Saint Francis' barrage of 25 shots, just six of which wound up on net.

The Red Flash finished the season 6-11-2 overall, and 2-6-2 in the Northeast Conference.

Dominic Mascia connected with Torrance on the game's only goal when he sent a pass from about 45 yards out into the 18-yard box.

SFU junior goalkeeper Darius Motazed (North Vancouver, Canada/Sentinel Secondary) (North Vancouver, Canada / Sentinel Secondary) stopped nine shots in the contest, while sophomore Kingsley McCleod (Rocky Mount, N.C. / Rocky Mount) and senior Daniel Moir (Christchurch, New Zealand/Shirley Boys) (Christchurch, New Zealand / Shirley Boys) had five shots each. Moir, and fellow seniors Michael Gagliano (Verona, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) (Verona, N.J. / Seton Hall Prep) and J.P. Mansberger (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) exhausted their eligibility at Saint Francis in their final game.

The Red Flash peppered Robert Morris goalkeeper Toba Bolaji with 25 shots, and he made six saves for the win.

Saint Francis had several golden chances in the contest, including one each by sophomore Taylor Powers (Petaluma, Calif./Casa Grande) (Petaluma, Calif. / Casa Grande) and freshman Wayne Tiller (Magnolia, Del./Caesar Rodney) (Magnulia, Del. / Caesar Rodney).

Tiller's opportunity came in the first half off a breakaway with 6:29 remaining. He received a long pass just past midfield and sprinted into the 18-yard box with a defender trailing. However, he pulled away at the end and released a hard shot that Toba knocked away harmlessly.

In the second half, sophomore David Butler (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) (Baltimore, Md. / Loyola Blakefield) sent a pass to Powers, who released a shot that was partially deflected and went just wide of the post.

SFU outshot the Colonials 25-18 and had seven corner kicks against just five.
