ROCK HILL, S.C. (Mar. 20, 2009) – On the first day of their first spring competition, the Saint Francis women's golf team compiled a round of 357 to stake claim to a 10th place spot in the 12-team Winthrop Intercollegiate on Friday at Rock Hill Country Club.
Sophomore Caryn Doege (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) (Monroeville, Pa. / Gateway) paced the Red Flash with a first-round 83, putting her in a tied for 22nd place heading into Saturday's action.
Oral Roberts has the team lead with a first-round 312, while Winthrop is second (316), Yale and Minnesota are tied for third (322) and High Point is fifth (334).
The three-day event will continue on Saturday as teams will begin teeing off at noon. The last tee time will take place at 3:27 p.m.
Also for Saint Francis, sophomore Kaitlin Hensal (Seville, Ohio/Wadsworth) (Seville, Ohio / Wadsworth) carded an 88 and is in 45th, freshman Skylar Hay (Easton, Pa./Freedom) (Easton, Pa. / Freedom) is in 56th with a 91, junior Lisa Kocin (Parma, Ohio/Padua Francisan) (Parma, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) is in 65th with a 95, and sophomore Laura Smith (State Line, Pa./Greencastle Antrim) (State Line, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) is in 68th with a 98. Additionally, sophomore Michelle Wetzel (Sewickley, Pa./North Allegheny) (Sewickley, Pa. / North Allegheny) carded a 104, but did not figure in the team scoring.
