Kent Nets Four, but Red Flash Can’t Get Past Bobcats

LORETTO, Pa. (April 9, 2009) – Freshman Chelsea Kent (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs), who now owns the single-season records for both points and goals, notched four goals this afternoon but the Saint Francis lacrosse team fell to the Quinnipiac Bobcats 24-9 on Thursday at DeGol Field in Loretto.

The Red Flash, now 1-9 and 0-6 in the Northeast Conference, will return to DeGol on Saturday for a contest with Central Connecticut State.  Game time is set for 11 a.m.

Brittany Kovacs (Oshawa, Ontario/R.S. McLaughlin CVI) tallied a goal to start the game off on the right foot for Saint Francis, but the Bobcats struck back with three goals of their own to take the lead.  Kent netted her first of the day on a feed from Kate Simmons (Delran, N.J./Delran), who also broke the school record for points and goals this week, with 26:07 left to play in the first.

Katie Jenkins (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) followed suit, tying the game at 3-3 on a pass from Meghan Crosby (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore).

Quinnipiac then scored 14 unanswered goals to take a 17-3 lead until Simmons put one past Bobcat goalkeeper Noelle Martello with 23 seconds remaining in the first half.

The Bobcats were able to notch the first two points of the second half before Kent went on a 3-0 run for the Red Flash, netting all three tallies in less than ten minutes.   QU put two more past Danielle Pokusa (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) before Kovacs and Catherine Helming (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) each netted an unassisted goal to put the score a 21-9 in favor of the Bobcats.

Quinnipiac scored three more times to take a 24-9 decision from the Red Flash.

Kent's four goal effort led the way for Saint Francis, with Kovacs tallying two behind her.   Christine Sinnigen and Tiffany Manzi led the Bobcats in scoring, each with four goals as well.

The Red Flash had 18 ground balls and controlled the draw 13 times, with Simmons and Crosby each grabbing three draw controls.  Helming led the team in both caused turnovers (2) and ground balls (4).

Pokusa, who also grabbed four ground balls, made nine stops in the game.
