SOUTH BEND, Ind. (May 22, 2010) – Sophomore
Tyler Straub (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) was once again the team leader, tying his weekend best of 71 to lead the Saint Francis men's golf team to a 14th place finish at the NCAA Central Regional at the Warren Golf Course on the campus of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. The tournament was completed on Saturday after poor weather postponed Friday's rounds.
The team combined for a final score of 319-304-287-910, finishing 70 over par for fourteenth place. Stanford finished ten under par with a final score of 830 to take first place. The Cardinal, along with Florida, Florida State, Duke and Louisiana State will advance to NCAA Championship.
Straub carded a total score of 77-71-71-219 to finish tied for 48th overall, moving up five spots from his previous ranking. He finished the tournament nine over par, after shooting one over on Saturday.
Junior
Joey Amelia (Chatham, Ontario/Chatham Kent Secondary) (Chatham, Ont./Chatham Kent Secondary) also improved on the final day, shooting a low of 72 to finish the competition in 65th place with a score of 78-76-72. Amelia shot two over in the third round.
Adam Simpson (London, Ontario/Oakridge Secondary) (London, Ont./Oakridge Secondary),
Vincent Adams (Boisbriand, Quebec/John Abbot College) (Broisbriand, Quebec/John Abbot College) and
Ryan Coccagna (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) finished 73rd, 74th and 75th overall, respectively. Simpson shot plus-four on his way to a third-round score of 74. He carded a total score of 80-78-74-232.
Adams was close behind, shooting a round-low of 70 on Saturday to end with a score of 84-79-70-233. He finished even on the day and +23 overall. Teammate Coccagna completed the tournament by carding an 85-81-78-244. He finished +34 over the course of three rounds.
