(Oct. 4, 2009) – Junior Joey Amelia (Chatham, Ontario/Chatham Kent Secondary) (Chatham, Ontario / Chatham Kent Secondary) carded a first-round 37-39-76 to lead the Saint Francis men's golf team to a sixth-place showing after the first round in a 15-team field at the Scotty Duncan Memorial Golf Tournament, which is being hosted by the University Delaware at White Clay Creek Golf Club.
Amelia is in a tie for sixth place in the individual race, while the Red Flash are tied for sixth along with Bucknell. SFU shot a first-round 320 and are 16 shots off the pace.
Delaware leads the event, which will conclude on Monday, with a 304, and is followed by George Washington (307), Rutgers (314), Iona (315) and Lehigh (317). Northeast Conference foes Mount St. Mary's 323) and Monmouth (326) are in eighth and 10th, respectively.
Sophomore Ryan Coccagna (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) s in a tie for 20th after shooting a first-round 79, sophomore Adam Simpson (London, Ontario/Oakridge Secondary) (London, Ontario / Oakridge Secondary) is in a tie for 24th with an 80, sophomore Vincent Adams (Boisbriand, Quebec/John Abbot College) (Broisbriand, QC / John Abbot College) is in a tie for 60th with an 85, and senior Patrick Finlan (London, Ontario, Canada/London Centeral) (London, Ontario / London Central) is tied for 68th after carding an 87.
