Women's soccer records 11th win at Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (Oct. 22, 2010) – Sophomore Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) scored her 13th goal of the season just 5:10 into regulation and the typically-stout Red Flash defense posted a shutout as the Saint Francis University women's soccer team bested Sacred Heart, 2-0, to improve to 11-4-1 on the season.

McKibben's unassisted tally pulled her into fifth place in program history for goals scored in a season and upped her point total to 34, which is the second-most a Red Flash player has racked up over the course of a season.

Despite firing 17 shots, the Pioneer offense was frustrated by Saint Francis' defensive corps led by Alecia McNiff (Marietta, Pa./Donegal ) (Marietta, Pa./Donegal), Katy LaBella (Warwick, R.I./Toll Gate) (Warwick, R.I./Toll Gate) and Jennifer Brennan (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (Northport, N.Y./Northport).  The defense combined with goalkeeper Lauren Fearer (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant Area) (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant Area) – who made six stops on the night – to post SFU's sixth shutout of the year.

Fearer improved to 7-2-1 with the victory.

With SFU's top scorer already in the books, senior forward Chelsea Traurig (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) iced the cake for the Flash, finding the back of the net for the first time this season in the 44th minute.

While the 2010 Flash are now tied for most wins in program annals, they also cleared an inside track to the squad's first postseason berth since 2005.  Saint Francis is now 5-2 in the Northeast Conference and is second only to Long Island, which is 6-0-1 in league play.

SFU can clinch a spot in the NEC tournament as early as Sunday with a win at Fairleigh Dickinson and a Bryant win over Central Connecticut.

Sunday's matchup with the Knights kicks off at 1 p.m.
