LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 17, 2010) - The Saint Francis football team will take the field for the final time in 2010 on Saturday, when the Red Flash make the long road trip to New Britain, Conn. to take on the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils in the season finale.
Neither team will be playing for any postseason hopes in this final game, but pride will still be on the line as the Red Flash look to snap a seven-game losing streak and end the 2010 season on a high note. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m., with Pat Farabaugh and Sean Fagan giving you the call from Arute Field. Tune in to The Edge 1400 AM or The Edge 850 AM, or catch the live online stream on The Edge webpage, at 11:40 a.m. for the pregame show before kickoff.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 18th meeting between these two teams, with the Blue Devils holding a 15-2 advantage in the all-time series. The teams have met every year since 1993, and the Blue Devils have won all but the inaugural meeting (a 29-27 Saint Francis win in Loretto) and the 2005 edition of the rivalry (a 31-28 Red Flash victory at Trojan Field in Johnstown, Pa., while DeGol Field was under construction).
In the most recent meeting, the Red Flash held a 13-7 lead late in the fourth quarter, but the Blue Devils were able to score a late touchdown to seal a 14-13 win on Nov. 14, 2009 at DeGol Field. Red Flash defensive lineman
Russel Fisher (Kailua, Hawaii/Mid-Pac Institute) intercepted a pass and returned it 51 yards for a touchdown, and
Kyle Harbridge (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) had a 31-yard touchdown run.
History was made in the contest when Red Flash linebacker
Scott Lewis (South Fork, PA/Bishop McCourt) recorded his 387th career tackle, surpassing Matt Farabaugh for most career tackles in Saint Francis history.
HOW THEY'VE FARED SO?FAR
The Blue Devils started the season 1-2 in their non-conference schedule, then ripped off five straight NEC?wins before falling to Robert Morris 42-24 in a de facto NEC?championship game hosted in Moon Township. They defeated Monmouth last week 49-48 on a two-point conversion in overtime.
