Field hockey sets new wins record in home finale

LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 29, 2010) – The Saint Francis University field hockey team made sure it closed out its home season on a high note, earning its fifth win of the year with a 3-0 triumph over Robert Morris at DeGol Field on Friday afternoon.

After going a frustrating 0-6 to open its home slate, the Red Flash defeated Sacred Heart for the first time ever on Sunday, before following it up with Friday's victory.  The pair of wins also gave SFU its first back-to-back wins since the 2007 campaign and its highest win total in program history.

Saint Francis' leading scorer, Kellie Mason (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich), wasted little time in getting the Flash on the board.  The sophomore staked her team to a 1-0 advantage at the 7:25 mark with her sixth score of the year and SFU never looked back.

Senior Rebecca Reiff (Farmingdale, N.J./Wall) (Farmingdale, N.J./Wall) notched her fifth tally of the season in the 20th minute with an assist from back Caitlin Brown (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg).  Brown – who has racked up a career-high eight points this season – started her 67th career game in what was her final appearance at DeGol Field.

Junior Claire Wilkie (Durban, South Africa/Danville Park Girls) (Durban, South Africa/Danville Park Girls') set up the final home goal of the season for the Red Flash, just under five minutes into the second half.  Wilkie passed the ball ahead to freshman Jocelyn Scillia (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) (Lititz, Pa./Warwick), who promptly scored her fifth tally of the season.

Robert Morris managed only nine shots in the contest, with six of those coming on-goal.  Goalkeeper Katelyn Vitali (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright) stopped four of those shots, with defender Kate Rossman (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) making the other two.

Saint Francis (5-12; 3-3 Northeast) wraps up its regular season on Sunday when it visits league-leading Rider for a noon match.
