LORETTO, Pa. (Dec. 10, 2010) – After a banner year on the pitch, the Saint Francis men's soccer team received more good news as three players were selected to the 2010 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-North Atlantic Team.
Senior co-captains
Patrick Fleming (Dunedin, New Zealand/Bayfield) (Dunedin, New Zealand / Bayfield) and
Tyler Hibbs (St. Catherine, Canada/Governor Simcoe) (St. Catherine, Ontario / Governor Simcoe), and junior
Kingsley McLeod (Rocky Mount, N.C./Rocky Mount) (Rocky Mount, N.C. / Rocky Mount) were all selected. Fleming was named a first team forward, while Hibbs was chosen as a third team defender and McLeod was selected as a third team forward.
“I am very pleased that Patrick, Tyler and Kingsley were recognized as NSCAA All-North Atlantic Region players,” said Saint Francis head coach
Michael Casper. “This recognition is very deserved as all three were standout performers for us this season. It is a tremendous achievement for these players and our program to get this kind of recognition across the region. I am happy to see that all the work these guys have put in this season has been rewarded with such an outstanding honor.”
Fleming and Hibbs were both named All-Northeast Conference performers this season. The All-Region honors is the third during Fleming's career, while Hibbs and McLeod pick up their first awards.
Fleming, who was recently named an ESPN Academic All-American, was the first Red Flash player to be named to the All-NEC First Team since Bryan Maguire back in 2007. He entered his senior year with 24 career points, but the proceeded to match that total over 16 regular season matches in helping Saint Francis earn the No. 3 seed in the NEC Tournament. Fleming, who scored or assisted on nearly half of the Red Flash's goals this season, finished third in the NEC in scoring (24 points), fourth in goals (8) and fourth in assists (8). Fleming's selection to the All-North Atlantic Region is the third of his career.
Hibbs was a four-year starter, and was one of the leaders of a Red Flash defense that recorded six shutouts in the regular season. He also provided an offensive spark with career highs of 2 goals and 3 assists, and finished sixth on the team with 7 points.
McLeod enjoyed a breakout season in 2010, and is expected to be one of the key cogs in Saint Francis' offense in 2011. He had career highs with 5 goals, 2 assists and 12 points, which was good for second on the team. He'll enter the 2010 campaign as SFU's active leading scorer with 9 goals, 4 assists and 22 points.
Fleming, Hibbs and McLeod are the eighth, ninth and 10th NSCAA All-Region honorees in school history.
