SMITHFIELD, R.I. (April 18, 2010) – Freshman Danielle Conwell (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) again led the scoring with three goals, but it wasn't enough as the Saint Francis lacrosse team dropped a 16-11 decision to future Northeast Conference member Bryant on Sunday afternoon in Rhode Island to end the regular season.
Stephanie Toomey (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester) also notched three goals, while Kimberly Peterson (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) made 16 stops in net.
Conwell gave the Red Flash a 1-0 lead early on, notching an unassisted goal less than a minute into the first half. Bryant struck back with a tally from Allison Faiola before Toomey sent in a pass from
Kate Simmons (Delran, N.J./Delran) (Delran, N.J./Delran) to put the Flash ahead again.
Antoinette Lombardi sent two balls past Peterson for her first two of the game, giving the Bulldogs their first lead of the day at 3-2.
Chelsea Kent (Winter Spring, Fla./Winter Spring) (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs) evened up the score with her first tally of the day before Meg Atha scored on a pass from Madeline Pickett. Simmons sent over another pass to Toomey, who tied the game up with her second goal of the game with 14:14 left to go in the first half.
Kent broke the tie with her second of the day, with
Brittany Kovacs (Oshawa, Ontario/R.S. McLaughlin) (Oshawa, Ont./RS McLaughlin) recording the assist on the goal. Conwell put the lead at 6-4, with
Sheri Fort (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp) (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) picking up the helper. The Bulldogs then scored six straight to take a 10-6 lead by the end of the first half.
Bryant continued its streak, notching the first two of the second half as well to increase their advantage to 12-6. Simmons then netted two in a row, cutting the deficit to four before Conwell added in her third of the day to put the score at 12-9 with 23 minutes to go in the game.
Toomey netted her third of the game, while
Catherine Helming (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) scored her first soon after to bring the Red Flash within one. However, their hopes of victory were dashed when Bryant scored six straight to close out the game, taking the 16-11 victory with them.
Fort and Peterson each picked up four of SFU's 18 ground balls. The Red Flash controlled the draw 11 times in the game, with the Bulldogs taking the draw 18 times.
