Field hockey opens season with loss to Davidson

WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 28, 2010) – The Saint Francis University field hockey team opened its 2010 campaign with a, 5-0, loss to Davidson College on Saturday at American University. After opening the game with nearly 28 scoreless minutes of play, Davidson’s Jennie Mostellar put the Wildcats on the board and never looked back. Mostellar scored again just over five minutes into the second half to take firm control of the match. Finely Amato also notched a two-goal day for Davidson. Saint Francis goalkeeper Katelyn Vitali (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) made eight stops in nearly 62 minutes of work. The Red Flash were outshot 23-to-4 on the day. SFU midfielder Claire Wilkie (Durban, South Africa/Danville Park Girls) (Durban, South Africa / Danville Park Girls’) fired a team-high two shots, including one shot on goal. The Red Flash look to rebound on Sunday when they face Georgetown at American University. The match is scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m.
