Field hockey falls to Georgetown to close out opening weekend

WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 29, 2010) – Despite an improved offensive showing from Saturday’s season-opener, the Saint Francis University field hockey team fell to 0-2 on the young season with a, 4-0, loss to Georgetown at American University on Sunday morning. Although the Red Flash were unable to tally their first goal of the year, they did improve their shot total by five, including three on goal. Kellie Mason (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) and Tia Dudukovich (Port Matilda, Pa./State College Area) (Port Matilda, Pa./State College Area) led SFU with two shots apiece. The Georgetown offense wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, notching the eventual game-winning goal 92 seconds into the match. Charlotte Tierney paced the Hoyas – who improved to 2-0 – with two goals. Red Flash goalkeeper Katelyn Vitali (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) took the loss, in an eight-save complete-game effort. Saint Francis returns to action on Friday when they welcome Temple for a 3:30 p.m. match.
