Colgate tops field hockey in overtime

LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 19, 2010) – Colgate’s Halle Biggar flipped a shot from short range to beat Saint Francis goalkeeper Katelyn Vitali (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright) 5:46 into overtime to lift the Raiders to a 2-1 win over the Red Flash at DeGol Field on Sunday. The setback spoiled an otherwise solid outing for Vitali and the Flash, who now have lost their last two games in Loretto in extra frames. The sophomore keeper made six stops, while Saint Francis racked up a 10-to-9 shot advantage and a 13-to-11 edge in corners. In a broader scope, the game also showed the strides the program has made in recent years. Coming into Sunday’s eighth-ever meeting between the two squads Colgate had never beaten the Flash by fewer than two goals. The Raiders drew first blood in the contest on a Laura Denenga goal 15 minutes in. The score – which was assisted by Biggar – was her team-leading sixth of the season. Saint Francis drew even in the 38th minute on an unassisted tally by sophomore Tia Dudukovich (Port Matilda, Pa./State College Area) (Port Matilda, Pa./State College Area). The goal was her third of the campaign and gave her a team-leading seven points on the season. Sophomore Kellie Mason (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) paced the SFU offense with three shots, one of which was on goal. Saint Francis returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 26 when they visit La Salle for a 1 p.m. contest.
