Brown, Baczeksi, Paccione Named 2010 SFU Field Hockey Captains

LORETTO, Pa. (April 27, 2010) – Caitlin Brown (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) and Julia Baczeski (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) will be joined by Eileen Paccione (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook) (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook) as captains of the Saint Francis field hockey team for the 2010 season as announced by head coach Stacey Bean last week.

“As captains, each of these student-athletes bring different styles of leadership and strengths to the team,” said head coach Stacey Bean, who enters her third season at the helm of the Red Flash.  “I'm very excited to see the positive impact they will have on our program this season.”

Brown, who will be a senior in 2010, was a leader in the backfield for the Red Flash in 2009.  The Hamburg, Pa., native started 15 games in her junior season and took a team-high 21 shots.  After finishing the season with two defensive saves, Brown earned a spot on the 2009 All-Northeast Conference Second Team.  Also a captain in 2009, she is majoring in Biology at SFU.

Fellow senior Baczeski, also a captain in 2009, recorded an assist and five shots during the season.  The New Englander finished the year tied for seventh in points in the team.    A 17-game starter at midfield, Baczeski is pursuing a degree in Exercise Physiology.

Paccione is the newest addition to the Red Flash captains.  The Red Hook, N.Y., native, Paccione was one of five players to start all 18 games at midfield in 2009.  As a junior, Paccione recorded one assist and five shots, and was tied with fellow captain Baczeski for seventh on the team in points.  Paccione, who will be a senior in 2010, is an Elementary/Special Education major.    Her older sister, Annie, was also a former SFU field hockey captain.
