BETHLEHEM, Pa. (Sept. 5, 2010) – The offensive showing that the Saint Francis University field hockey team had been waiting for all season finally came about Sunday afternoon as the Red Flash notched their first win of the season, 3-2, at Lehigh.
Sophomore
Tia Dudukovich (Port Matilda, Pa./State College Area) (Port Matilda, Pa. / State College Area) scored SFU’s first goal of the year five-minutes and 20 seconds into the match, before the Mountain Hawks’ Abby Tilton drew the equalizer nearly 21 minutes later.
Two minutes and 12 seconds into the second half, freshman forward
Jocelyn Scillia (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) collected a dribbler near the Lehigh goalkeeper to put the Red Flash ahead for good. Scillia followed up her first score of the season by notching the game-winner a minute later from the right side on a feed from Dudukovich.
Scillia’s two goals in a game tie for the second most in the program’s 10-year history.
Lehigh would score once more in the 43rd minute, but it would serve only as window dressing.
On the afternoon, Lehigh outshot the Flash 18-to-11, and as far as shots on net go, the Mountain Hawks held a 14-to-9 advantage.
SFU goalkeeper KatelynVitali (Bel Air, Md. / C. Milton Wright) earned the win with a 12-save outing.
The Red Flash return to action on Wednesday when they welcome Lock Haven for a 6 p.m. match.
