ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Jan. 22, 2011) – The Saint Francis University men's tennis team dropped its first decision of the spring, 6-1, to Navy on Saturday morning at the Tose Family Tennis Center. The Midshipmen won five of six singles matches and two of three in doubles play.
"Navy has an impressive lineup," said SFU head coach Paul Tobin. "All I wanted my men to do was work the ball and force errors -- try to pick up as many breaks as they can and hold serve -- and that is exactly what they did.”
Senior
Stephen Kowalski (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) posted the only Red Flash singles win, carrying the no. 4 spot, 6-3, 5-7, 10-6, versus Jeremy New. Kowalski's wins in sets one and three were the only two for SFU on the day.
Elahn Pogue (St. Catherines, Ontario/West Park) and Nathaniel Fleming teamed up to win no.1 doubles for Saint Francis. The duo defeated Navy's Nick Biger and Mike Eisenberg, 8-6.
Saint Francis returns to action on Feb. 4 when it visits UMBC for a 2 p.m. match.
