Saint Francis Downs Siena, 3-0

Pellman ties single season goal record

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis field hockey team earned its second conference win of the season Friday knocking of Siena, 3-0, at DeGol Field.
 
The Red Flash (4-11, 2-1) picked up their third home victory of the season Friday against the Saints (0-14, 0-3) behind a solid defensive effort. Autumn Pellman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) tied the single season school record for goals with her 10th of the campagin, while Katlyn Vitali posted her second shutout in three conference games this season to send SFU to the win.
 
Saint Francis control the early play and did not allow a Siena shot on goal in the in the first half while posting seven of its own. Kellie Mason (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) gave the Red Flash the lead early with a goal at the 6:10 mark. Mason's shot went over the top of the goal keeper's shoulder off an assist from Taylor Harvey (Cream Ridge, N.J./Allentown).
 
Pellman's goal came just after halftime at the 37:59 mark of the contest, when the Red Flash rookie scored between Beth Meyers', Siena's goal keeper, legs. SFU continued to press its advantage in the second stanza and Carissa Makea (Auckland, New Zealand/Rosehill College) made it a three goal Red Flash advantage at the 40:43 mark. Tia Dudukovich (Port Matilda, Pa./State College Area) picked up the assist.

The Red Flash finished the contest with a 16-2 advantage in shots and a 13-3 lead in penalty corners. Vitali stopped the only shot from the Saint that found its way on net.
 
Saint Francis returns to action at DeGol Field Sunday as they welcome NEC foe Bryant to Loretto for a 1 p.m. start.
