SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. (Oct. 15, 2011) – The Saint Francis University men's golf team completed the first round of its final event in the 2011 fall season and are currently in 16
th in the 17-team field at the Barnabas Health Intercollegiate, hosted by Seton Hall.
The Red Flash recorded a team score of 317, which places them 10 shots ahead of last place Wagner. Tournament host Seton Hall and James Madison both carded identical scores of 297 and sit at the top of the leaderboard following day one. Temple, Long Island and Longwood round of the rest of the top five squads. In all, five Northeast Conference schools are competing in this weekend's intercollegiate event.
Leading the way for the Flash on the individual leaderboard is sophomore
Jeff Chastel (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), who fired a three-over 75 in the first round of action to place him in a tie for 10
th place in the 88-player field. Scanning through the rest of the leaderboard, senior
Jeremy Foran (London, Ontario/Fanshawe College) is next in line behind Chastel as he sits in a tie for 41
st after carding a first round 78. Freshman
James Ferguson (Altoona, Pa./Tyrone) shot an opening round 81 to put him in a tie for 72
nd. Senior
Ryan Coccagna (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) ranks as the fourth Flash golfer on the leaderboard in a tie for 78
th with an 83 following day one. Freshman
Kyle Krout (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) carded a 90 in the first round to place him in a tie for 88
th.
Brandon Park of Seton Hall has a two-shot lead heading into the final round of action after firing a three-under 69 on the first day of play.
Saint Francis is set to play the final round of the Barnabas Health Intercollegiate tomorrow morning.
