LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 2, 2011)
– The Saint Francis University men's soccer team picked up a 1-0 Northeast Conference win over Sacred Heart, on a cold and rain filled Sunday afternoon at DeGol Field.

“I am pleased with our performance today,” head coach Michael Casper said. “We rebounded nicely from a disappointing game Friday and showed strong character. I thought we controlled the game throughout the match and were rewarded with the goal. It is also nice to get another shutout and keep a quality team like Sacred Heart off the board. Hopefully we can build some confidence from this and get ready for our next two matches on the road.”

Play remained deadlocked at zero until the 74th minute when David Butler (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield)'s free kick rebounded off the far right post of the goal cage, and came right to a waiting James Price (Christchurch, New Zealand/St. Andrew’s College) who sent the ball into the back of the net. For Price, the goal is his first of the season and second of his career.

The Red Flash (5-4-1, 1-1) controlled the tempo for the majority of the match and did not allow the Pioneers (5-4-0, 1-1) many chances to hold possession. SFU outshot Sacred Heart by a 12-8 margin, and placed six of its shots on target. Wayne Tiller (Magnolia, Del./Caesar Rodney) registered a team-high three shots. Saint Francis also held a high advantage in corner kicks with a 6-1 tally.

Senior Darius Motazed (North Vancouver, Canada/Sentinel Secondary) picked up his fifth win of the season, third shutout win, as he logged all 90 minutes of the contest and stopped five Pioneer shots.

Saint Francis travels to Hamden, Conn. this Friday for a NEC battle with Quinnipiac, beginning at 4 p.m.
