FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Saint Francis field hockey team opened Northeast Conference play Friday with a 4-0 win at Sacred Heart.
Autumn Pellman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) scored twice in the first half and assisted on a third goal as the Red Flash (3-11, 1-0) opened league play with a win against the Pioneers (3-9, 0-1). Katelyn Vitali made the four goals stand up with four saves earning the shutout.
Pellman found the net early at the 3:40 off an assistant from
Tia Dudukovich (Port Matilda, Pa./State College Area). The freshman continued her impressive rookie season with her second goal of the game at the 25:39 mark in the first half. Vitali made all four of her saves in the first frame as the Saint Francis defense tightened in the second half.
The Red Flash did not allow a shot on goal in the second half and surrendered just one penalty corner but the offense pressed its advantage.
Jocelyn Scillia (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) made it a three goal game just following the half off an assist from Pellman, who posted a career high five points.
Kellie Mason (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) removed all doubt with a goal at the 38:54 mark.
Saint Francis returns to action Sunday when they travel to Quinnipiac for a noon start against the Bobcats.
