Men's soccer shutout on the road at CCSU

Box Score

NEW BRITIAN, Conn. (Oct. 9, 2011)
– The Saint Francis University men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback at the hands of Central Connecticut State Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Devils posted both of their goals in the first half of action, with the first one coming nearly 20 minutes into the contest. Steven Bailey fired a shot past SFU starting goalkeeper Darius Motazed (North Vancouver, Canada/Sentinel Secondary) from 30 yards out into the lower right corner of the net to give CCSU a one-goal advantage.

In the 36th minute, Jesse Menzies sent a free kick to the head of Aaron Durr to put the Blue Devils up by two and give them their final tally of the match.

“Today was a tale of two halves,” head coach Michael Casper said. “We were terrible in the first half and conceded twice. In the second half we regrouped and showed just how dominant we can be but we couldn't finish our chances and get back into the game. We need to learn how to play for 90 minutes and give ourselves the best opportunity to win. Hopefully we can learn quickly and rebound for two very important games this weekend.”

Sophomore Nick Kolarac (Pittsburgh, Pa./West Allegheny) led the Flash in shots, registering four, three of which were on target. Motazed made six saves on the day. Junior Thomas McWilliams (Mermaid Waters, Australia/Palm Beach Currumbin) replaced Motazed in goal at the start of the second half, facing no shot attempts.

The Red Flash outshot the Blue Devils by a 13-9 margin in the contest  and forced CCSU's goalkeeper to make seven saves.

Saint Francis continues its road trip this weekend when they travel to Brooklyn, N.Y. for two NEC matchups, beginning first with Long Island Friday at 4 p.m.
